One of the oldest cities in the north east of England, the settlement of York dates back to around 8000BC, but the city itself was founded by the Romans in AD71. Considered so important, it was declared capital of Britannia Inferior or the north of England by the Emperor Severus. Modern York is a thriving UK city of nearly 200,000 people with a diverse range of industries, such as telecommunication, IT, finance and developing scientific innovation.

There are also many fine shops, restaurants and cafes to enjoy, as well as leisure and sporting facilities. York can also boast many tourist attractions, such as York Minster, numerous castles and country houses in the surrounding area, and museums and exhibitions charting the city’s eventful history. As a reflection of this the city was awarded European Tourism City of the Year for 2007/2008.

As with any city of its size, York boasts a number of hotels, inns and lodgings available. For a more personal service, however, we would suggest a stay at one of the many excellent York Bed & Breakfast guest house establishments. These vary in terms of size, facilities and tariffs. Prices, of course, may vary depending on the season.
