People come from all over Britain and sometimes the world to visit the great City of York. It has some of England’s richest heritage and many historic landmarks. Many come to see York Minster and walk the medieval streets of The Shambles. It’s also a city of many fine and varied restaurants and excellent shopping.

Thornfield House is a family run and family friendly bed and breakfast located in Markham Street. Its location makes it just a short 10-minute walk to the city centre with all its pleasures and distractions. Your hosts are Kath and Ed Stead, and they take pride in providing a welcoming, luxurious guest house at a reasonable rate.

The house itself is a mid-terrace Victorian property, and it has been lovingly styled and detailed to capture the intrinsic appeal of the property while being up to date for all savvy 21st century travellers. There are double, twin and family accommodations. All rooms have en-suite facilities, a digital TV and well-stocked hospitality tray with tea and coffee making goodies. The rooms have been tastefully designed, and are sure to feel like a haven of rest and relaxation.

More than just a place to lay a weary head, Thornfield House serves superb breakfasts. These can either be taken in the dining room with its warm oak floors, oak furnishings and old fireplace, or in the newly built conservatory. The conservatory allows for a sunny breakfast and looks on to the lovely walled garden.

Prices are from £60 for a double room on a bed and breakfast basis.

For breakfast, you’ll have a full English freshly made, as well as an array of cereals and toast with preserves. There are also continental options and, of course, hot tea or coffee to swift away the vestiges of sleep.

Whether visiting on business or to enjoy the many sides of the great City of York, Thornfield House is a home away from home for all who appreciate warm welcomes, appealing design and a hearty breakfast.
